For a Jiu-Jitsu floor, the foam is critical for safety and comfort. The foam must absorb impact, prevent injury during takedowns, and still offer a stable surface for movement. For Jiu-Jitsu floor mat most, common use is 1/2” Ensolite at the top layer and 1.5” thick 2.3lbs density of polyethylene under the Ensolite making the total thickness of the floor mat 2” thick.
1/2” Thick, ensolite is a flexible closed-cell elastomeric foam that is very durable but also a little softer than other closed-cell foams. This foam offers anti-microbial protection (with skin) built in to give resistance to mold and bacteria growth. Ensolite is a flexible closed-cell elastomeric foam. It has a Class B fire rating and energy-saving thermal performance. Ensolite is dust, fiber, and formaldehyde-free.
1.5” Thick, polyethylene is a popular foam that is shock absorption, durability, moisture resistance and easy to custom cut. This foam “bounce back” on impact and protects against moisture and does not attract fungi or mildew. There are 2 types of polyethylene laminated and solid polyethylene. Most common is solid polyethylene which is touch firmer and more durable. For a cheaper option laminated polyethylene is also available.
1” Thick, minicell is our crosslink polyethylene, an excellent choice for wall padding, especially in martial arts gyms, wrestling rooms, dojos, and even home training areas.
