The Standard Backer Rod is an ideal non-absorbent compressible backup material. It is inserted into a joint to control sealant depth to create a backstop to resist gasoline, oil and most other solvents. Backer rods, also known as Sealant Chord, is used in construction to provide a reliable and flexible backfill on joint filler to fill expansion gaps allows proper sealant tooling. Foam N More’s backer rods are sold by 6ft or 7ft strips in 6”, 8” and 9” diameter and have 2 choices of closed cell polyethylene or open cell charcoal firm foam.
6" and 8" diameter is a closed cell polyethylene that is a weatherproof material. The polyethylene is water resistant and both foams are compressible for various project uses. The 6” and 8” Round Backer Rods can be use as joint filers on concrete forms, roadways, walls or rooftops closures buildings or any were where there is expansion and contraction between the joints.
9" diameter is an open cell foam which is NOT water or liquid proof. This foam can be used to fill gaps and pipes lines that will not get wet. This material will trap cold or hot air from escaping. This material is firm, and it can be compressed a little but has excellent recovery which helps to fill any uneven voids in the gap to be sealed and provides firm positioning and support.
Both types of foam will fill in cracks and gaps. Custom sizes/diameters and lengths are available for optimal fitting to the size of the joint being sealed.
Basic Use: ITP Standard Backer Rod is an ideal nonabsorbent compressible backup material. It is inserted into a joint to control the sealant depth to create a backstop to:
* water resistant, low abrasive, with excellent shock absorption.
* Use in medical, marine, recreational and protective packaging markets
* Allow proper sealant tooling
* Allow proper sealant wetting of the joint surfaces
* Yield a proper bond breaker between the Backer Rod and sealant
* Function as a temporary seal.
